The PC is no longer the killer application for semiconductors. Instead, many new applications continue to emerge. These include the automotive semiconductor market, which has been a strong market for the semiconductor industry for many years.

The personal computer (PC) market has been the single largest driver of semiconductor sales for many years, but has fallen for the sixth consecutive year. At the same time, the semiconductor industry in 2017 is expected to usher in the best sales year. Among them, the strongest growth momentum comes from the automotive market. This growth will continue until 2021.

The PC is no longer the killer application for semiconductors. Instead, many new applications continue to emerge. These include the automotive semiconductor market—a strong market that has held steady for years in the semiconductor industry—with the increase in the number of semiconductor products in each car, automotive semiconductors have quickly become the most important market for the semiconductor industry.

In fact, market research firm IC Insights predicts that at least in 2021, the automotive semiconductor market will be the most powerful chip terminal application market. According to the company's forecast, from 2016 to 2021, sales of automotive electronic systems will grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.4%.

IC Insights pointed out that this growth has come from the increasing demand for automotive electronic systems in the market. It is also increasingly focused on driverless (autopilot) vehicles, vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-vehicle infrastructure (V2I). ) Communication, as well as on-board safety, convenience, and environmental protection functions, not to mention the interest in electric vehicles (EVs).
